Salkantay Trek 5 Days

This is an alternative route to the classic Inca Trail to Machupicchu, which will take you through amazing landscapes and natural beauties with exotic flora and fauna endemic to the region, we will also have the opportunity to see the famous SALKANTAY snow plow that is part of the ANDES. The hike will involve crossing valleys and mountains before reaching the “Lost City of the Incas”, Machupicchu.

Itinerary

Day 1: CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – SORAYPAMPA:

From Cusco very early in the morning at 5.00 a.m., we will go by bus to MOLLEPATA (this is the beginning of the trek), it takes about 3 hours, when we arrive here we have our first breakfast and fix our horses, then we walk for about 3 more hours to CRUZ PATA where we have lunch, after lunch we will have an hour to rest and then we will start walking to SORAYPAMPA (3.850 MA.SL) in this part of the trail, we will see in front of us, the first snowy mountain of HUMANTAY. Then we will be able to see in front of us the first camp at 5:30 pm where our porters will be waiting with some hot tea. And then we will have dinner (the first camp is the coldest).

Day 2: SORAYPAMPA – CHAULLAY:

After having a good breakfast and leaving at 6:30 a.m. Here we have to climb for four hours to the first pass of SALKANTAY mountain. Which is over 4,540 masl here at the top of this Salkantay mountain (highest point). We stop for about 25 minutes to take group photos, because from here, we will have excellent views of the mountain range and we will find some piles of stones (Apachayta) around this pass. After this, we will sunrise for 4 hours through a nice trail to Chaullay, which is lower than the first camp at 2,900 masl, where we have our tea time and dinner.

Day 3: CHAULLAY – LA PLAYA (Sawayaco) – SANTA TERESA:

We leave Chaullay early and after our breakfast at 7.00 am we will pass through COLLCAPAMPA. In this part of the hike, we will walk along a narrow trail on the mountainside, crossing some species of orchids and different types of plants, and some corn fields, fruit fields and we have the opportunity to see the most beautiful waterfall of the trail. After walking for 5 hours. Finally we will arrive to LA PLAYA place, we will take a small truck to go to SANTA TERESA, the town is more than 1.645 msal, it will be only 45 minutes by truck and we will arrive to SANTA TERESA around 1:00 p.m. to install our tents. Here we can go to the medicinal hot springs which are only 45 minutes from Santa Teresa town.

Day 4: SANTA TERESA – HYDROELECTRIC – HOT WATERS:

We wake up at 7.00 am and after breakfast we start walking for approximately 2 hours to reach the Urubamba River, where we will use the bridge to cross the river. After continuing for 2 more hours to a hydroelectric plant which is also a small town and the train station for this part of the trail. Here we can see many types of fruits, trees and plants. Finally we arrive at the last place of our things ready and around 3:00 pm we will take the local train to Agues Calientes (1 hour) where we will spend the night in a hotel.

Day 5: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU. CUSCO (B):

We have to get up very early in the morning at 5:30 a.m. to have breakfast and then take the first bus to the archaeological site of Machu Picchu, when we arrive at Machu Picchu. The tour guide will explain the meanings, importance and history of Machu Picchu as we walk around the city and visit the most important places of Machu Picchu for approximately 2 hours. After the explanation, you have the option to climb Huayna Picchu mountain, enjoying all of Machu Picchu. Then you can take a bus to Aguas Calientes and then take the train back to Cusco for 4 hours to arrive in Cusco at 8:20 pm. approximately. End of our services.
